v2.11.0 (5353)

Tronc Commun - UE-M-ADPH-GreenPrc : UE 13 Green processes for pharmaceutical engineering

Descriptif

This course addresses an overview of green chemistry, alternative solvents and biotechnology. Main principles of rising processes turning current chemistry to green chemistry will be presented. Special focus will be addressed to supercritical processes and biotechnology. Alternative solvents such as supercritical fluids will be introduced for the application of supercritical fluids in pharmaceuticals and polymer industries. Learning the fundamental concepts of bioprocesses will be used to develop various bioproducts such as organic solvents, industrial alcohols, biopolymers, antibiotics, enzymes and proteins among others. In addition to these main principles, carbon footprint and REACH will be introduced. Then green chemistry metrics and life cycle assessment principles will be detailed.

Objectifs pédagogiques

The students will be able to:

  • Define the 12 principles of Green Chemistry
  • Make a link between the principles and the alternative processes presented
  • See and explain the application of supercritical fluids in pharmaceuticals and polymer industries
  • Manipulate the fundamental concepts of bioprocesses and Biochemical Engineering (separation and purification operations) applied to biopharmaceutical products
  • Manipulate and calculate data related to carbon footprint, life cycle assessment and green chemistry metrics
