Module 1- Intercultural Communication
The course deals with:
Stereotypes using DIE ( Describe - Interpret-Evaluate)
Cultural spectacles, stages of cultural shock (Oberg graph, 1954)
Communication patterns : Gestures - Theories - Proxemics
Verbal/ non-verbal (paralanguage) : Haptics, Oculesics, kinesics
Language & Cultural identity
Learning Focus and material : Reading, writing, speaking (Role Plays or mini-drama), intercultural communication based on videos, current issues, case studies, etc.
Language focus : adjectives, comparing & contrasting, agreeing & disagreeing, reported speech, present tense, present perfect

Module 2 - Engineering Ethics
Mapping the terrain for Engineering Ethics
The history- The Engineering Code of Ethics : the fundamental principles
The Code of Ethics and its limitations based on examples of « ethics in practice »
Identifying Ethical Dilemmas : Case Studies
Engineering/ or non-engineering specific
Decision making
Whistleblowing
Solving ethical dilemmas
The course will be based on authentic case studies provided first by teachers then by students.
The students are allowed to discover for themselves - find their own case studies and encouraged to pick up on ethical issues

Module 1 - Intercultural communication
Course Objectives :
The students are able to : consider the components of culture, diversity in everyday life and in workplace.
Understand the importance of non-verbal communication.
Apply their cultural awareness of different values in their communication (spoken or written)
Deconstruct their own culture and have a better grasp of differences
Practice social english and small talk, role play cultural issues, built up fluency, etc

Course Objectives
Have a picture of what ethical behavior looks like
Identify moral problems & dilemmas
Consider alternative actions or middle way solutions
Envision consequences
Be able to use steps to solve ethical dilemmas
