Descriptif
Students use a commercial software to simulate an integrated process that couples mesophilic anaerobic digestion (AD) with cogeneration (CHP), for the concurrent production of electricity and useful thermal energy. In a first attempt, compression and expansion are considered as isentropic and combustion is supposed to occur at constant pressure. Then, deviations from the idealized isentropic behavior, multistage compression with intercooling and multistage expansion with reheating and heat integration are considered. Students highlight the influence of the more sensitive operating parameters and optimize the process.
Beforehand, an introduction to gas turbine and steam turbine cycles is provided.
